Commuters stranded as govt bans Okada in Abakaliki

By Dennis Agbo

Abakaliki – Many People were, yesterday, stranded at different bus stops and other locations within Abakaliki metropolis as the ban on commercial motorcycle operators by Ebonyi state government took effect.

Security agents, mostly policemen were every where in the state capital, enforcing the ban, while a few of the commercial motorcyclists that defiled the government order were apprehended and their motor circles confiscated.

Most commuters who spoke to Vanguard lamented the short notice by  government, saying that transporters would have been better prepared if enough time was given.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Paul Okorie, told Vanguard that government has no hand in the few taxi cabs in the metropolis, as they were managed by individuals and corporate organisations, adding that the ban on the commercial motorcycles would further encourage private investment in city transportation.
