Abia raises alarm over alleged plot to destabilise state

By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia—Abia State Government has cried out over an alleged plot by a member of PDP Board of Trustee (BOT) member and strongman of Abia politics, Prince Benjamin Apugo to destabilize the government of Chief Theodore Orji.

The government alleged that Chief Apugo wants to use his immense wealth and influence to incite the people, particularly, Ibeku people, to protest against the government.

Incidentally, Apugo and Governor Orji are Ibeku sons.

Apugo, himself had on Wednesday raised alarm and alerted security agencies over alleged plot by the state government to kill him. He alleged that the government had threatened his life using the state sponsored vigilante outfit, the Bakassi Boys.

Apugo said his only crime against the government was that he addressed Ibeku people, and at the occasion, criticized the PPA government’s policies and poor performances despite the revenue that accrues to the state.

But the government through the Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, also an Ibeku indigene, who ironically Apugo named as the arrow head in the alleged threat to his life, dismissed the claims of the PDP chieftain, saying that he was only out to intimidate and blackmail Governor Orji.
