There can be no threat to PDP under my leadership in Bayelsa–Dickson

By Samuel Oyadongha, Yenagoa

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson yesterday dismissed the rising claims of plot by some politicians to dislodge him and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 2015 governorship elections, declaring that there is not threat to the PDP under his leadership as governor of the state.Though he said the PDP in the state has witness cases of defections, disloyalty by some members and series of anti-party meetings by some known PDP leaders, the political activities in the state including outcome of elections have shown the state belong to the party and cannot change.

He spoke at the monthly transparency briefing in Yenagoa.

The governor said the party is ready for the planned take-over bid by the opposition during the governorship polls.

He explained that a special contact and mobilization committee will be set up to take care of grievances and complaints from genuine party members in the state.

His words: “Our state belong to PDP and the results of elections have shown this. We have demonstrated our capability during the past elections where we won three seats of the Senate, five for the House of Representatives and 20 out of 22 declared seat for the State House of Assembly.

“There is no threat to PDP under my watch. Under my watch, your future is assured. Those of us who love this state belong to PDP. This state will continue to be PDP.

“Please tell these people that we are ready for them. We are ready to spread the restoration story. There own politics is for their families and wives but our politics is for the development of the state. When next they come to you, please ask them what they have done for Bayelsa.”

On the recent defections of some PDP members into the All Progressive Congress (APC), he said those defecting into the opposition party and expected political benefits will be met by disappointments.

“Those that have benefited from the PDP and are defecting with expectation of benefits from the APC shall have disappointment as their portion” he declared.

On the ongoing probe into the activities of some PDP members during the National and State Assembly elections, he described the conduct of the disciplinary committee as commendable.

“The way we do politics in Bayelsa must change. You can not be in our party and disrespect our party. I am also subject to the party and if the party submit the report, we will consider it and act upon it,” he said.

Dickson berated some aides of the President, who according to him, have benefited so much from his administration by way of contact awards through their fronts but which they failed to execute to specification leading to their revocation.
