Asaba—DELTA State Government has threatened to sanction taxi operators in the state, who failed to change their cab colour to the approved blue and white taxi colour, as the three-month deadline for changed of same, expired, yesterday.
The State Executive Council, had approved the change of colour for cabs in the state within three months, following security reports that most of the taxi cabs not painted in taxi colour were being used to perpetrate crime undetected.
State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Ben Igbakpa, had earlier warned that there was no going back on the deadline for all commercial vehicles operating in the state to be branded in the approved colours, saying that it was time to bring defaulters to book.
He expressed sadness that despite the three months, many commercial vehicle operating in the state were yet to comply, adding that the negligible few, who had complied, were yet to report to the ministry to obtain the free identification numbers plate for their vehicles as directed.
He lamented “the high level of lawlessness by some transporters in Delta State,” insisting that simple rules must be obeyed for the progress of the state.
