The protest staged yesterday by the  students of the Nigeria’s premier university – the University of Ibadan, to register their grievances and dissatisfaction over the epileptic power and water supply in the institution has entered its second day.

Even the presence of security agents including soldiers and armed police men could not deter the students from continuing the protest which they have tagged, “Occupy UI”.

The aggrieved students said they will continue to occupy the university and its environs until their demands are met.

Investigation by Vanguard revealed that the school’s main entrance, lecture halls remained locked against academic and non-academic staff of the school.

Consequently, vehicular and human movements in and out of the institution were hindered. This has forced commuters on the ever- busy Ibadan-Ilorin road were held up for several hours as a result of the gridlock occasioned by the protest.

The protesters led by the newly inducted Students’ Union Executives displayed placards against their  Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Adewole.   Some of the placards read: “Where is our right? University of Ibadan is the first but the worst”.  We are tired of darkness and drought ”no light, no water, no life, we are fed up”, among others.
