Aba NBA blasts Abia on sack of non-indigenes

By Anayo Okoli

ABA – ABIA State Government has continued to receive knocks over its indigenisation policy, with the latest coming from Aba branch of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, which condemned the conduct of labeling fellow Nigerians from other states non-indigenes .

The NBA said the mass disengagement of duly employed public servants “is ungodly, unlawful, highly discriminatory and amounts to unabashed desecration of the fundamental rights provision of the constitution of Nigeria and African Charter on Human and Peoples Right Act.”

It said the decision would “gravely, adversely and negatively impact on existing and future family bond and unity” of the people of Nigeria.

In a resolution, after its meeting held in Aba, the lawyers noted that the decision by the government “is sure to sow the undesirable seed of social, economic and political discord, chaos and disorder among other states where Abians are employed.”

The NBA said the move was also  capable of scaring “potential or chasing away existing investors, industrialists, suitors and well meaning Nigerians from coming to the state.”
