Zenith boosts education in Kano

KANO — THE Kano State government is working toward putting in place an initiative that will ensure that every student in public schools in the state possess textbooks in English and Mathematics.

Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State who announced this said even if every school child could not afford all textbooks, the government, parents and well-meaning individuals and groups must collaborate to ensure that English and Math textbooks were available to the students.

The governor made the remark at Kano Educational Resources Department, Ministry of Education, Kano where he presented textbooks donated to the state government by Zenith Bank Plc.

Shekarau, therefore, commended Zenith Bank for the donation and enjoined the benefitting students to handle the books properly so that those who would come after them would also gain from the gesture.

Group General Manger of Zenith Bank, Mahe Abubakar, explained that the donation which consists 12,000 SS1 English and Mathematics textbooks as well as 20,000 exercise books for secondary schools was aimed at supporting the strides of the state government in the education sector.

Abubakar who said the bank would continue to consider corporate social responsibility as the best way of expressing appreciation to its working environments thanked the state government for its support to the bank.

In his speech, the state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Musa Salihu, represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Hajiya Salamatu Garba enjoined well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the example of Zenith Bank to revitalise the education sector in the state.
