Nigeria’s leading opposition figures yesterday launched a coordinated political offensive against President Bola Tinubu and his All Progressives Congress, APC-led government, rejecting the newly-amended Electoral Act 2026, and warned it could spark a democratic crisis ahead of the 2027 general election.

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu, yesterday, told opposition elements and party faithful that “elections are not conducted on social media platforms. Nigerians conduct elections.”

Honourable Aminu Sani Jaji, a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Kaura-Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, has rejected the results of the recently concluded APC Wards and Local Government congresses in Zamfara State, citing widespread irregularities.

Voter apathy, late commencement of voting and allegations of vote-trading yesterday, shaped the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja Area Council elections and bye-elections in Kano and Rivers states, even as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies described the exercises as peaceful and orderly.

“…While the opinion for Nuhu got 45 percent, El-Rufai got seven percent, and so on and so forth. So, it was on that basis that Tinubu reached out to Nuhu and adopted him as a (presidential) candidate.
