PENULTIMATE week, the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, rolled out its guidelines for the Anambra State primary election in preparation for the state gubernatorial poll fixed for November 16.

UNPRECEDENTED crowd of supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the 326 wards in Anambra State yesterday held Awka to a standstill during a rally organized by the leadership of the party to welcome its governorship aspirants recently cleared to go for the primaries that would produce its flag bearer for the November 16 governorship election.

WITH the November 16 2013 governorship election about 103 days away, Anambra State political atmosphere has become turbo-charged.

Some called it “deportation”. That was not quite correct because those removed from Lagos State by officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, to the shore of River Niger in Anambra State were Nigerian citizens. The state officials tried to dress it in nicer terms. They called it “relocation” and “re_unification with families”.

ABUJA—The All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, is set to rake in N163 million from the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms to the aspirants jostling to fly its ticket in the November 16, 2013, governorship election in Anambra State.

Mr Sylvester Okonkwo, a PDP aspirant for the governorship race in Anambra, said in Abuja on Saturday that he would not support the emergence of a consensus candidate by the party for the general election.

Residents of Onitsha, Anambra State, were greeted with the sight of 67 persons later discovered to have been deported from Lagos, Wednesday, July 24.

The election holds barely 90 days away to elect Gov Peter Obi’s successor. Analysts blame the scenario on the delay by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in releasing the guidelines and timetable for the election.
