FORMER Senate Minority leader and member representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial district, Senator Godswill Akpabio has approached Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo, the state capital to kick-start the legal processes to challenge the senatorial result.

The former governor of Alwa Ibom  on Saturday night stormed Essien Udim Local Government Area collation centre.

Former Senate Minority Leader, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, withdrew the suit he filed to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  from issuing Certificate of Return to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chris Ekpenyong, who defeated him in the February 23 Senatorial election.

Dr. Chris Ekpenyong served as deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State in the period between 1999 and 2005. He had since his exit from office laid low albeit politically. That was until late last year when he emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District. Dr. Ekpenyong proceeded to win the election in which he was pitched against the immediate former governor of the state and immediate past Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio. He speaks on the feat and expectations of the PDP ahead of this weekend’s polls.

LAST  Saturday’s Presidential/ National Assembly polls did not  happen in the six states of the South-South geo-political zone without the flattening of a number of political strongholds and reinforcement of old and new opinionated avatars.
