Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Election: Akpabio Laments INEC’S Manipulation

Senator Godswill Akpabio has  lamented the monumental manipulations that characterized the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial district election in the February 23 presidential and National Assembly Election, saying the election that produced Chris Ekpenyong of the People's Democratic Party as the winner of the election was highly skewed against him by the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Former Senate Minority Leader, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, withdrew the suit he filed to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  from issuing Certificate of Return to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chris Ekpenyong, who defeated him in the February 23 Senatorial election.

Dr. Chris Ekpenyong served as deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State in the period between 1999 and 2005. He had since his exit from office laid low albeit politically. That was until late last year when he emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District. Dr. Ekpenyong proceeded to win the election in which he was pitched against the immediate former governor of the state and immediate past Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
