THE legislative backing over the battle for the actualisation of N30,000 new minimum wage by Organised Labour, has been given a major boost after members of the House of Representatives, at their Tuesday sitting set the new National Minimum Wage as N30,000.

TUESDAY’S approval of N27,000 minimum wage for state and private sector workers by the National Council of State, NSC, has added to the imbroglio over the protracted new national minimum wage.  The council also in the approval which has been rejected by Organised Labour, fixed N30, 000 minimum wage for federal workers.

NIGERIA Union of Petro-leum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has appointed Afolabi  Olufemi as its Acting General Secretary following the retirement of Adamu Song on January 1, 2019,  after reaching the Union’s mandatory retirement age.

When the Tripartite  Com-mittee on the new minimum wage submitted its report to President Muhammadu Buhari on November 5, 2018, workers were full of expectations. In fact, some had hoped to use the new minimum wage to celebrate the 2018 yuletide season following the National Assembly assurance of an accelerated process once it received the draft bill.

Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has told President Muhammadu Buhari, that only a total overhauling and amendment of Nigeria Contents Monitoring and Development Board, NCMDB, Act will make it achieve the aim and purposes of the act.

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari said, yesterday, that the salaries of workers earning above the new minimum wage will be renegotiated.

THE Federal Government has set January 23 deadline to transmit the N30,000 new minimum wage recommended by Tripartite Committee to the National Assembly.

All  that glitters is not gold, according to the old aphorism. That appears to be what aggrieved workers of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, are telling the public.
