TENSION heightened penultimate Saturday at the Ijora Badia Police Station after a handful of mob attempted to burn down the station in protest of alleged extra-judicial killing by some policemen attached to the station.

DISTURBED by the increasing cases of extra- judicial killings by policemen across the country, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbonna Onovo has ordered discreet investigations into the activities of officers involved in such dastardly act with a view to nipping in the bud, such senseless killing of Nigerians suspected to have committed crimes without trial.

Authorities of the Nigerian Police Force, Federal Capital Territory Command, Abuja are battling to resolve a pattern of crime at petrol stations along the airport road that appear to indicate that armed robbers, in collusion with policemen deployed to protect petrol stations, have found a perfect way of making money without jeopardizing the job of their police collaborators.

Indications emerged yesterday that the Presidency may have set machineries in motion towards probing alleged mismanagement of about N550 million released out of the multi-billion naira Seven- Cities Project which seeks to ensure that states with high crime rates are provided more equipment to ensure that criminality is reduced to the barest minimum in the country.

TWO good friends from the South East of the Niger who came to Lagos some years back in search of greener pastures are currently in a hot soup at the dreaded State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos for abandoning their earlier credible means of livelihood and allegedly turning to criminality.

The story with its accompanying photographs were not only shocking but gory. It detailed how 19 passengers aboard a luxury bus from Enugu to Lagos were crushed to death on the Ijebu-Ode/Shagamu Expressway in the second week of February, 2010. Emotions were high. Nigerians condemned the incident.

“ I have three brothers who are Air Force personnel and they are all retired now. I actually stole the uniform from their house when I was staying with them.. I particularly took the uniform of one of them who was a group Captain. I am not using the uniform to steal.

“Go and warn some of your men who are okada operators. I know the town is hard but the issue of their driving against traffic because they are policemen does not augur well. If they should use it for commercial purpose, they should let them out . Driving against traffic is a sign of indiscipline”, he stated.

The suspect, who was arrested by operatives after they had been on his trail for a long time, was alleged to have staged series of robbery attacks on residents of Ogun and Lagos States, where he dispossessed his victims of their vehicles and other valuables.
