ENUGU—No fewer than 35 armed robbery,kidnap and secret cult suspects were paraded by the Enugu Police Command this week following their arrests by various operational units of the command through its intelligence policing strategy adopted by the newly posted Commissioner,Nwodibo Ekechukwu.

While briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters,Commissioner Ekechukwu revealed that a three-man kidnap gang that specializes in terrorizing residents of Nsukka and its environs has been arrested by the operatives of the Anti Kidnap Squad of the command.

Suspects

The suspects, Emenike Onoyima,27,Jude Mamah,22,Mba Chinedu,25,all from Umuezejor,Obollo-Afor,in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State were arrested on March 3, at about 8.05 AM in their hideout, located at No 1 Timber road,Isiakpu,Nsukka having held their victim, Mrs. Makata Elochukwu,29, and her Driver,Bernard Ameh,60, hostage for four days.

Items recovered from the suspects included; one locally made gun with three live cartridges and a Nokia phone suspected to the property of their victim.

Continuing,the Police Boss said,”Operatives of the New Haven Division have arrested one Sunday Oka,from Ezeagu in Isielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State,residing at Mmakwum,Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State  who specializes in trafficking fake currency.

“He was nabbed on February 26, allegedly dressed in Nigeria Naval T. Shirt with a faze cap at New Haven Police Station where he had gone to secure the release of his associates Abea Johnson   and Henry Nwankwo all from Ezeagu in Isielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State who were apprehended for being in possession of fake currency.

“They went to a shop at Nanka Street, New haven,Enugu to buy   things with thirty-five pieces of fake one thousand Naira notes and through that process got the real currency note as a balance. However,  the owner of the shop having observed the situation,raised alarm which attracted the attention of the security operatives.

“Also,one Friday Nwachukwu,26, of Isu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was arrested at Otigba junction,New Haven having robbed a victim of N60,000 and other valuables at gun point.”
