THE African leaders journey  to Beijing, for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, FOCAC, holding from September 3-4, 2018, actually began fifty three years ago. That was at the infancy of our independence. In 1960 alone, seventeen African countries had gained independence. Tanzania became independent in 1961 and Zambia, four years later. Both faced the same challenge of development,  lifting Africans out of poverty, and the underdevelopment foisted on them by colonialism.

I NEVER  met Professor Halimatu Sa’adiya Idris, and I will never meet her. At least not on earth. However, I was so angry about  the reasons adduced for  her removal as Education Commissioner in Katsina State that on January 29, 2018, I wrote a piece in this column titled: “ The difficulty and burden of governance.” 

RWANDA is a small landlocked African country with a 24,670 square kilometer, a population of 11.9 million and a GDP of $8.9 Billion. It is with this country, the United States, US, the world’s largest economy with a $20.412 Trillion GDP, a 9,147,420 square kilometre and a population of 326,920,253, has picked a trade war.

Beyond the noise of the political class claiming they had done or are doing wonderfully well in governance, giving themselves pass mark and even writing falsehood as history, Nigerians need to collectively demand for basic governance
