OWERRI—Imo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has commenced a special patrol, code named “Operation Barka De Sallah”, packaged for enforcement of traffic regulations throughout the celebration.

As part of the seven-day operation, mobile court session was held along the Owerri-Aba road, where 48 offenders were apprehended and prosecuted for contravening 65 traffic offences.

Confirming this in a telephone interview, the Sector Commander, Mr. Angus Ibezim, said 21 persons were prosecuted for seat belt violation, 17 for fire extinguisher, 10 for light sign/caution, three for number plate and two each for windscreen and mechanical deficiency.

“Other details include five for failure to move over, one each for driving with worn out tyres, non-use of safety helmet, dangerous driving and obstructing marshals on duty violations,” Ibezim said.
He equally used the opportunity to warn motorists from dangerous and reckless driving, as well as resist the temptation of overloading their vehicles.

The sector commander decried the delay in the rehabilitation of the ever busy Owerri-Aba federal highway and called for speedy recovery of the dilapidated portions of the road to alleviate the hardship being experienced by commuters.
