NFF election: The die is cast, the coast is clear , says electoral committee chairman

By Fidelis Ebu
The Nigeria Football Federation Electoral Committee Chairman, Barrister Abdulhakeem Mustapha has declared that “there is no stopping the election scheduled for this weekend”.

While reacting to speculations of litigations restraining the electoral processes, Barrister Mustapha said the coast was clear for the elections to hold as scheduled.

“The die is cast. I don’t see any need for anybody at this stage to want to truncate or to frustrate the process, but like I said it’s the decision of the congress and I’ve not seen anything to the contrary that the election would not hold, Barrister Abdulhakeem Mustapha said in an exclusive chat.

He however confirmed that there were litigations but added that they would not truncate the elections processes.
“I heard that there were litigations here and there, and there was one matter that was filed in Federal High Court in Ilorin and the court in its wisdom ruled that the proper place to file the action was Abuja without giving any order  restraining the election.

So, the matter is supposed to be given to a court in Abuja here. On Friday last week,  as a lawyer, I went to the court and no step has been taken in that regard.

“The court did not grant the application sought by Taju Disu in Lagos. When they wanted to move application for injunction, NFF counsel filed a notice of preliminary objection, and the court refused to grant any application, and the matter was adjourned till  the 26th of August, 2010. So, I’m saying with all sense of responsibility that as at now there is no order from any court against the election.

“The coast is clear; legally speaking there is no order restraining us from going on with the electoral processes”, he said.
