Afribank Nigeria Plc, a foremost bank in Nigeria, donated an ambulance to the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) during the NRCS/JOS/HAITI Appeal Fund raising ceremony at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, yesterday.
Mrs. Patience Jonathan, wife of the the President, and Mother General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society received the ambulance on behalf of the Red Cross, from Mr. Nnamdi Anammah, Executive Director, Institutional Banking, Afribank during the event.
“Afribank is deeply concerned about the Jos crisis and carnage in Haiti that claimed thousands of lives,†Mr. Anammah said.
In line with its entrenched corporate social responsibility policy, Afribank is always attracted to developments and initiatives that would increase the quality of lives of people.
“We decided to be involved in this exercise because the Red Cross Society of Nigeria is very dear to us. We really appreciate the good work the Red Cross is doing in Nigeria and abroad, and for proving to be a valued stakeholder in terms of the patronage we are receiving from it as a partner in progress, Mr. Anammah added.
He enthused, “the Red Cross Society of Nigeria is very strategic to our business because their activities touch the lives of millions of Nigerians with various needs. By partnering with the Red Cross, the bank is able to reach different sets of disadvantaged Nigerians. Time will fail us to list several CSR projects we have been involved in recently.
But permit me to state that we may be one of the few corporate institutions in Nigeria that have a charity fund run by employees.
In recent times, we have built a Post Graduate Block for a University, equipped several educational institutions, provide free medical checks at International Trade Fairs, among others.
He emphasized, “As a responsible corporate institution, Afribank is ready to assist the Red Cross Society of Nigeria and other Non Governmental Organizations in the implementation of their laudable projects.
We are committed to taking quality banking services nearer to the people, and develop latent economic opportunities. We assure that Afribank will place at the disposal of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other well meaning NGOs, its highly cherished banking services and strengths to assist in realizing their mandate.
