The former Youth and Sports Commissioner in Nasarawa State, Silas Agara has said he was in the race for a seat on the FA board to contribute his quota to development of the game.

“I am offering myself for service because I want to join football patriots to help bring about a change in the way the game is run in the country, having seen enough from the outside. I have ideas I know if I get inside, can be bring about rapid development of the game in our zone and in the country largely,” he said.

The former commissioner, whose tenure saw the best of sports in the state, particularly football, as the state sides Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Queens prospered in league and FA Cup competitions.

Nasarawa United which then made the Premier League Final Four in 2006 won a continental ticket and an unsuccessful bid for the CAF Champions League in 2007. “The problem is not only there art the top but even the way we have operated our league. We can do more to improve our football given the abundant resources we have.”

Agara’s declaration as a candidate from the north central zone, pitches him against the incumbent, Dominic Iorfa, who incidentally hails from neighbouring  Benue State. Analysts believe Agara may have to work exceedingly hard to sail through.
