SAMSON Siasia may have to wait longer than expected before he takes over as the Chief coach of the national team, Green Eagles.

Siasia was proclaimed as the man to take over from Swedish coach, Lars Lagerback after the Swede informed that he would not be extending his contract to handle the Eagles. Technical Committee Chairman of the NFA, Dominic Iorfa said that the elections into the board of the Nigeria football Association, NFA, would affect Siasia’s resumption date.

“Siasia remains the one to take over from Lagerback. But he has to wait a little bit longer because of the FA elections. It’s not wise to appoint a coach when a new board of the FA would be elected”, Iorfa said.

Siasia had been contacted by the FA before this new twist. Iorfa said that Siasia remains the number one and last option for the FA but many queried how the Bayelsa-born coach would cope combining his job as Chief Coach of Heartland. “There is nothing to worry about the two jobs. Things will sort themselves out at the right time”, Siasia said.

Siasia however informed warned that fans should not expect him to perform miracle when he gets to the Eagles camp. “It’s pertinent to let them know that I am not a magician. People should not expect me to do abracadabra in the Eagles.

Things have gotten bad and it will take time to remedy them. We will be looking at 2012 and 2014 to start reaping results in the team. The important thing is that I am ready to work and transform things in the team”, Siasia who has proved himself in the Olympic team said.

There are fears, however, that a new board of the NFA may scuttle the appointment of Siasia once they get on board. “It won’t get to that. Siasia is the most qualified Nigerian that has the pedigree to handle the Eagles.

Even in the last dispensation, he came first in the interview that saw Amodu Shuaibu taking over as the chief Coach. I think that this is the time for Siasia”, Iorfa said.
