New head coach of Kwara United, Kadiri Ikhana, has opened up on his reasons for accepting to handle a Nigerian Premier League side after dumping Sharks of Port-Harcourt  two seasons ago.

The 58-year-old coach is known for sticking to his guns when he makes his decision on any particular issue bordering on football or his career, but this time had to break that rule.

Ikhana had at some point hinted that he was fed up with the way that the game was administered in the country and  preferred to stay away.

However, the former Enyimba and Kano Pillars’ man has revealed the reason behind accepting to handle Kwara United in the season.

He said that it was  Davidson Owumi had been elected as the new chairman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) that he made up his mind to return to coaching in the top-flight division.

“I have made it clear that I wasn’t interested in handling any club in Nigeria because of the way things are done here. But that changed when I heard that Davidson Owumi was elected as chairman of the league board.

You see this is somebody who represents those of us that has played and are now in coaching. He has played the game and knows the inside and outside of the game in Nigeria.”

Ikhana believes that the NPL chairman will bring his experience as a player and administrator to bear on the Premier League in ensuring that the welfare of players and officials become paramount in the scheme of things.
