Throughout his career, Emmanuel Cadet has operated at the intersection of security and system reliability, building infrastructure that must withstand both technical failures and malicious attacks.

From implementing fraud detection systems at Capital Bank to developing secure APIs serving millions of users, he’s witnessed how technological literacy—or its absence—shapes an organization’s vulnerability to cyber threats and its ability to adopt sustainable practices.
In recently published research, Cadet makes a compelling case that education serves as the critical link between two of the 21st century’s defining challenges: environmental sustainability and cybersecurity. His perspective challenges the conventional siloing of these domains, arguing instead that they share common foundations in systems thinking, risk assessment, and long-term strategic planning.
“When we talk about sustainability, we’re really talking about resilience—building systems and practices that can endure over time,” Cadet explains in his analysis. “That’s fundamentally the same objective we have in cybersecurity: creating infrastructures resilient enough to withstand attacks and disruptions.”
Drawing on his extensive experience implementing security controls and leading technological risk assessment, Cadet observes that many organizations approach sustainability and cybersecurity as separate compliance exercises rather than integrated strategic priorities. This fragmentation, he argues, stems partly from educational gaps. Business leaders often lack the technical literacy to understand how their sustainability initiatives—whether cloud migration, IoT sensor deployment, or supply chain digitization—create new attack surfaces requiring security consideration.
His research emphasizes practical examples familiar from his own work. The transition to cloud computing reduces physical infrastructure and energy consumption, supporting sustainability goals. But it also centralizes data and creates dependency on third-party providers, requiring new security frameworks. Smart building systems optimize energy usage but introduce connected devices that can be compromised. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure reduces emissions while creating networked systems vulnerable to disruption.
Cadet’s perspective is informed by his work across multiple sectors. At Ford Motors, through Altimetrik, he developed systems processing real-time vehicle data for autonomous vehicles and charging infrastructure. At Riot Games, he built APIs supporting millions of concurrent users. These experiences taught him that sustainability and security aren’t opposing forces requiring trade-offs, but complementary dimensions of robust system design.
His educational advocacy extends beyond technical training to encompass what he calls “systems literacy”—the ability to understand how technological, environmental, and social systems interconnect. He argues that educational institutions, from primary schools through universities, must integrate these perspectives rather than treating them as separate domains. Tomorrow’s leaders, whether in business, government, or civil society, will need to evaluate decisions through both sustainability and security lenses simultaneously.
The research also addresses organizational culture. Cadet notes that many cybersecurity breaches result from human error—employees clicking malicious links, using weak passwords, or failing to recognize social engineering attacks. Similarly, sustainability initiatives often fail due to behavioral factors rather than technical limitations. Education that emphasizes personal agency and responsibility can address both challenges.
His vision isn’t merely theoretical. Throughout his career, from implementing banking system security controls to developing scalable microservices architectures, Cadet has demonstrated how technical excellence and strategic thinking can coexist. His current work continues this pattern, building systems that must perform reliably while meeting stringent security requirements.
As organizations worldwide confront interconnected challenges of environmental sustainability and cyber resilience, Cadet’s research offers a framework for thinking beyond siloed solutions toward integrated strategies grounded in education, awareness, and systems-level understanding.
