ABUJA — Minister of Finance, Mr. Oluwasegun Aganga, has been summoned to appear today before the House of Representatives Committee on Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, over the alleged withdrawal of funds for MDGs projects in the country.

MDGs contractors will also appear before the Committee to respond to respond to claims by contractors handling the MDGs contracts that funds were not made available to them.

Addressing the gathering of MDGs contractors, consultants and MDGs officials at the second day of public hearing on MDGs, committee chairman, Mrs. Saudatu Sani frowned at the delay in the execution of quickwinks projects traced to delay in payment by Finance Ministry and banks.

According to her, the banks and the Finance ministry have no right to withhold funds meant for MDGs projects because they are borrowed for the purpose with a time frame.

“On the contractors who have not been paid, we are going to meet with the Minister of Finance. MDGs money is already a committed fund, it is a fund approved by the United Nations for certain projects so the minister has no right to say that he would not pay,” she said.
