UGHELLI—MOVED by the dwindling standard of education in Nigeria, children of late Chief E. Guanah, have donated writing materials worth thousands of naira to all primary and secondary schools in Patani Local Government Area.

They also donated five books written by the deceased to some higher institutions in Delta and Bayelsa States.
Presenting the items, which include 60,000 notebooks and 6,000 customized biros on behalf of the children in Patani, Mr Raymos Guanah, Delta State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, said the donations were in fulfillment of the charge their late father gave to them to do all within their power to support education in the country.

He disclosed that they had also donated 400 desks and tables to Abare Secondary Schools I and II as well as tables and chairs for all the teachers so as to pave way for comfortable teaching arrangement in the schools.

The Commissioner further disclosed that over the past four years,  they have been paying 13 graduate teachers in the school regularly to support the state government employed teachers, adding  “it is going to be a continuous thing as long as there is the means provided by God,” adding “we have also patterned with the wife of the state Governor to build a bore hole and public toilet for  Abare Secondary School.”

We see this as our own little way of contributing to education in the state”.

He said they had also made a commitment to support the Polytechnic, established in Bomadi by the state government by making an initial pledge of N300,000.

“We are remembering our father for his interest and love for education for which he gave us a charge that we must be interested and support education by all means,” he said.
