ASABA—CHAIRMAN, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Mr Sunny Ogwu,  has warned contractors who were awarded jobs under the 2015 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects against executing shoddy jobs.

Ogwu gave the charge while addressing representatives of various firms that qualified for various jobs under the 2015 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects at a pre-mobilization meeting with the contractors in Asaba.

He said that the Board in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, will  monitor the execution of the projects in the state.

Assuring the contractors of all encouragement and support,  including release of mobilization fee, he warned that the Board will not hesitate to revoke any of the jobs executed below specification.

Ogwu told the contractors to work closely with the Education Secretary of the Local Government where their jobs are situated as well as the Head of the Schools where the projects are sited.

He assured the contractors of prompt payment for jobs awarded to them upon certification by Engineers from the Board.

Also speaking at the meeting,  first member of the Board, Mrs. Gbugbemi Ikolo and Secretary of the Board, Mr Byron Unini spoke in the same vein, saying that standard should be their watchword.

Also, the Director of Planning Research and Statistics of the Board, Mr Pius Ayomanoh, who handled the Technical Session of the meeting, said that the jobs must be completed within 90 days from the date of mobilization including public holidays.

Ayomanoh who read the 22 point terms and conditions to the contractors, also disclosed that any material declared substandard by supervising officials from the Board must be immediately dismantled and reworked, otherwise the cost of such work and additional cost associated with the rectification would be deducted from contractor’s payment.
