PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, Tuesday, said the government would not raise salaries of civil servants in the country without a corresponding review of the pension benefits of retired military and other pensioners as stipulated in the constitution.

Speaking at the flagging off of the payment of pension arrears to retired military personnel at the Presidential Villa, Jonathan said a situation whereby salaries of public servants was increased by government without a corresponding increase for pensioners, created problems for pension administration in the country.

The President who lauded the Military Pensions Board for the effective manner it had carried out its function in the past said: “We have discovered that most of the waiting and hanging about by pensioners, particularly military pensioners, was the problem of not reviewing the benefits of pensioners as stipulated.
