Edo North AC cedes senatorial seat to Akoko Edo LG

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE leadership of the Action Congress, AC, in Edo North Senatorial District of Edo State, has ceded the senatorial seat to Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.

This is coming as the state chairman of the party, Prince Tony Omoaghe, said yesterday, that the leadership of the party in the state would soon set up a committee, that will screen all aspirants. He expressed optimism that the leaders of the party in the three senatorial districts will present  popular candidates that would defeat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming general elections.

The present Senator,  representing Edo North district, Senator Yisa Braimoh is from Owan East and with the AC ceding the ticket to Akoko Edo, the coast is now clear for  Deacon Domingo Obende, immediate past President of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Mr Peter Akpatason and the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Tunde Lakoju to slug it out.

Deacon Obende, who commended the leadership of the AC for ceding the ticket to Akoko Edo, when he visited the state secretariat of the party to inform the party leaders of his intension to run for the Edo North senatorial seat, said that the decision, ceding  the ticket to Akoko Edo, will go a long way in ensuring that a capable candidate emerged.

Acknowledging that capturing the senatorial ticket willd be a fierce battle,  considering the caliber of persons vying for the position, Domingo said, “I have come to realize that politics has to do with searching for quality and reliable values for community change and development.

“If it is true, collaboration with serious minded community driven men and women with passion, for grassroot values can come together to achieve this common goal,” he added.

Prince Omoaghe, who assured that the party will be fair to all aspirants, said “at the end of the day, what I am telling the opposition, who is troubled now in the state, is that who ever is the least candidate in AC, will defeat their best candidate in the forthcoming election. All the leaders in the senatorial districts shall decide their representatives and all we can do here is to ensure that the committee that will screen the aspirants is fair to all.”
