NTDC board accuses Runsewe of insubordination

By Omoh Gabriel, Business Editor
The board of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, NTDC, is accusing its management, especially the Director-General, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, of executive excesses, insubordination and gross disrespect to a duly-constituted authority.

The Chairman of the board, Mr.  Uche Anya, has thus queried Runsewe for breaching the law setting up the corporation, stating: “how do you explain your total absence of accountability to any constituted authority and your expenditure of over N3 billion of NTDC funds till date?”

But the Director-General, after initial silence has said that there was no board at the moment as none has been constituted by the ministry since it is not the place of the management to issue board appointment letters to board members.

According to documents sighted by Vanguard, the matter came to a head when on last May 13, the board wrote Runsewe, accusing him, thus:  “You will recall that the present Board of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation was inaugurated on 16 April 2009 (13 months ago).

“Since the inauguration of the board, you have by your conduct and actions committed several acts of indiscipline, abuse of office, utter contempt for due process and gross disrespect for the Board of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation of which you are a member. You have undermined the authority of the board, exceeded your powers and violated the law setting up the corporation and other extant laws, rules and regulations.
