BENIN—A chieftain of the Action Congress, AC, in Edo State, Mr John Mayaki, has described weekend commissioning of projects worth over N100million by the acting Chairman of Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Mr Akin Agbaje, as a charade.
He said that the projects were executed by the suspended Chairman of the council, Chief Johnson Emeasalu and wondered why Agbaje, who recently decamped to the AC would spend the tax payers money in commissioning the projects which are even being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and a Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor Adams Oshiomhole to investigate the allegation of inflation of contracts and alleged embezzlement of council funds levelled against Emeasalu.
The acting Chairman, Mr Agbaje had weekend, commissioned the projects as part of events to mark his 100 days in office.
But Mayaki, who also is one of the Media aides to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, faulted the Commissioning, insisting that the ceremony was uncalled for since he was not the originator or executor of the projects.
According to him, “that was why most leaders of the party stayed away from the event because we cannot be party to the charade as the projects were executed by the suspended chairman, Emeasalu.”
So we were shocked to see that Agbaje listed those major projects executed by the suspended chairman as part of the projects being commissioned.
“If you notice, when the Governor was 100 days in office, he did not see the need for celebration because there was nothing meaningful to show case. I think the acting Chairman should have saved those funds used for arranging the ceremony for projects, so as to be able to also say this is what he did while in office,†he said.
