Following a hit-and-run incident in 2013, 41-year-old Mudiaga Olusegun Ebenezer Obiomah has been living a life of travails and as his dream to live a productive and healthy life was shattered.

The 2001 graduate of science laboratory technology from the University of Ibadan suffered grievous bodily harm and lost use of his right leg.

“I am from Delta State and until recently before my accident, ran a cleaning business, Fumigation Company. I was trying to cross the road, when I was hit by a commercial bus that the driver was attempting to escape LASTMA officials

“The bus dragged me some meters before stopping. The driver reversed and sped off. I was taken by the Lagos State ambulance to the trauma centre around Seven-up where I was resuscitated before being admitted at Gbagada General Hospital.”

Mudiaga sustained injuries all his body, especially his back, side and knee. He continued suffering excruciating pain in the knee.

He was referred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, NOHIL, where he was bedridden close to eight months. The leg had become rotten and he later went to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where he was advised to undergo a total knee replacement surgery. He returned to NOHIL, and an assessment recommended fusion in an Indian hospital as solution to his medical condition. He would be on admission for 16 days for the procedure estimated at $5,000 excluding travelling cost.

“At the orthopaedic hospital, I was given three options – amputation, a knee surgery or fusion. So the diagnosis basically now is for me to undergo a fusion.”

A medical report dated 14th March, 2017, and signed by a Consultant Plastic and Hand Surgeon of the Division of Clinical Services at NOHIL, Dr. M.K. ChiraI, confirmed that Mudiaga had complaints of stiffness of the right knee and recurrent wounds on the right leg.

“He has been receiving outpatient wound care with less than optimum improvement in the size of his wounds.”

According to Chiral, the patient “would benefit fromin-patient, supervised wound care and skin grafting of the right leg wounds to give better chance of achieving timely wound cover, following which the stiffness of the right knee may be addressed.”

He had also incurred a nerve  injury, so three of his right fingers are not extendable.

Mudiaga is soliciting help from the general public and kind hearted Nigerians to come to his aid. He wants people to rally round and help him recover. It’s been a strong struggle for him to keep up with the medical constraint.
