ABUJA— The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has announced its readiness to probe 150 recorded incidents of hate speech associated with the 2015 general elections.

Consequently, the commission has asked the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to avail it of the contacts of its state chairmen and secretaries to enable it contact alleged violators, victims and complainants to attend its investigative hearings in states.

Acting Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Mrs Oti Anukpe Ovrawah, stated this, yesterday, in Abuja when she led the NHRC management team on a visit to the national leadership of the party.

Noting that the sole aim of the undertaking was to deepen democracy and tone down the language of political conversations in the country, the NHRC boss said same visit and request would be made to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who was represented at the meeting by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Sen. Lawal Shuaibu, said APC had agreed to collaborate in all the areas sought by the NHRC.
