WARRI—HEAD of security at Frankies Fuel Station, near Enerhen Junction, Uvwie Local Area of Delta State, Mr. Emmanuel Obene, was, yesterday, found dead inside a fuel tanker.
Obene had been reported missing since Saturday, when his colleagues at the station could not ascertain his whereabouts while his clothes were hung up in his office.
Vanguard investigation revealed that his corpse was discovered yesterday, when the driver of the tanker drove to one of the fuel depots in Warri to load product.
He had to return to the fuel station, when the corpse was discovered inside the tanker.
Policemen from the Enerhen Divisional Police Office, aided by sympathisers, evacuated Obene’s corpse and deposited same in a morgue. A bucket with which he was suspected to be scooping fuel from the tanker, was found beside him.
A staff of the fuel station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The shirt and shorts he wore were hung in his office.
“We started looking for him since Saturday, until the tanker went to the depot to load fuel, where the corpse was discovered inside the tanker.
“Immediately, the driver drove back the tanker to the filling station, where the body was removed and taken to the mortuary. It was a clear attempt to fetch fuel with a bucket inside the tanker, in the process of which he died.”
Efforts to speak with the management of the filling station and police operatives sent to evacuate the corpse proved abortive.
Contacted for official confirmation, acting Police Public Relations Officer of Delta State Command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said he was yet to get details of the incident.
