THERE were claims and counter-claims, yesterday, from Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba communities in Warri South-West Local Government Area and Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State, over alleged shooting and invasion of the communities by armed men.

While Aladja contended that Ijaw people of Isaba launched an attack on the community, but were stopped by the police, Ogbe-Ijoh people alleged that Aladja boys came, shooting in their community on Friday night.

An Urhobo youth leader, who preferred anonymity, told Sunday Vanguard: “Aladja community came under attack by Ijaw people from Isaba today (Saturday). Despite the peace accord entered into by Udu kingdom and Isaba to end hostilities at the Government House Annex, Warri, the Isaba boys came attacking Aladja this afternoon at about 1.00pm.

“The mobile police officers at the Aladja end saved the situation as the boys could not overpower them to enter Aladja. The DPO, Ovwian-Aladja, CSP Dike Albert got to the scene immediately and went with mobile police men to Isaba to effect the arrest of the boys, who came for the attack.”

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Awele Dibiamaka, said the picture was not clear, but  that policemen had been deployed in the affected areas to maintain peace.
