Lagos—Justice Muslim Hassan of a Federal High Court in Lagos, yesterday, adjourned hearing on the case against a 53-year-old farmer, Yesiru Onajobi, who is facing charges of incest, to December 19.

Onajobi was charged before the court by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other Related Matters, NAPTIP, on a two-count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his teenage daughter.

At the resumed hearing yesterday, the accused, who spoke Yoruba and pidgin English, informed the court that he had no legal representation and would want to stand in his defence.

The prosecution, Mrs Halimat Balogun, did not oppose the request.

However, when the first count was read to the accused, he retorted “I no understand.”

Trial judge, Justice Muslim Hassan, then ordered that a Yoruba interpreter be provided for the accused on the next adjourned date.
