Star Deepwater Petroleum Limited, a subsidiary of Chevron Nigeria Limited and its Joint Venture partners in the Agbami oil field have provided logistics supports to the reconstruction of the North East states, promising to play a significant role in restoring normalcy and bringing development to the region.

Speaking during the commissioning and handover of ambulances to Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states in Abuja, Mr. Jeffrey Ewing, Director, Deepwater and Production Sharing Contracts, Star Deepwater, commended the Federal Government for its efforts at returning peace to the region, which has made the intervention possible.

Ewing, who was represented by Mr. Gbenga Aluko, Director, Government Affairs, Chevron, disclosed that the intervention is a demonstration of its commitment to supporting the efforts of government in providing adequate and accessible healthcare in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states and also in rebuilding the affected areas in the states.

According to him, Chevron, Star Deepwater and their Agbami partners believe that the most rewarding investment is the investment in lives, because the greatest assets of a nation are its people.

“This is the underlying philosophy behind our social investment in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment. We believe in the principle of adding value and enriching lives in any society we operate in” Ewing noted.

He argued that the importance and usefulness of ambulance service in any structured health system cannot be overemphasized, adding that it was in recognition of this reality that the Agbami partners had undertaken this initial investment with the aim of preserving lives.

He noted that though the Agbami field is located approximately 70 miles (113 kilometers) offshore Nigeria, in line with the Deep Offshore Community Affairs Group, DOCAG, engagement principles, the partners view the entire country of Nigeria as Agbami community.

Also speaking, Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Services, NAPIMS, Mr. Dafe Sejebor, said the partners are committed to supporting initiatives at providing improved standard of living to Nigerians.

Sejebor, who was represented by Mr. Ahmed Laminu, Manager, Public Affairs Department of NAPIMS, stated that in addition to its primary responsibility of protecting government investments, it is principally driven by partnerships that are aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.

He said, “There is no gainsaying that the government is making concerted efforts at restoring normalcy in the North East. We are proud of the successes that have been recorded in recent past and salute the courage of our people. I commend the leaders hip of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states for their developmental strides.”
