Lagos—Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, yesterday, said that the increase in subvention to the Lagos State University, LASU, and others tertiary institutions in the state was to make them citadel of excellence that could compete favourably with others worldwide.

This came as he commissioned 32 classrooms in Badagry, worth over N20 million.

Ambode disclosed this in an interview after commissioning the three blocks of 32 classrooms in three schools- Badagry Senior Grammar School, Methodist Primary School and Local Authority Primary School, which also had in attendance the former Head of Service in the state, Mr. Sunny Ajose and others.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, said, “Everyone can see what we are doing in LASU and others.

The aim is to transform all our tertiary institutions to compete with their peers outside the country.”

“We are the only state that is increasing subvention to the tertiary institutions in their state. The reason for this is to ensure that the institutions compete favourably with others,” the governor added.

Vanguard gathered that about N12.219 billion was allocated as subvention to LASU and other tertiary institutions in the state.
