*As new Enugu PDP chairman pledges to reposition party

ONITSHA—Barely 24 hours after the Peoples Democratic Party state congress in Anambra, a third faction led by Mr Ngozi Agudosi has emerged and threatened to institute a legal action against a faction congress committee chairman led by Ladi Edun.

This followed a parallel state congress, yesterday, at different venues by the party that produced two state chairmen, Mr. Ejike Oguebego and chief Ken Emeakayi of Chief Chris Uba faction and senators Andy Uba and Stella Odua’s faction.

Agudosi was one of the three chairmanship candidates that duly purchased forms to contest in the Andy Uba/Stella Odua faction but was disqualified by the Edun led faction congress committee on grounds that the position was zoned to Ihiala local government in Anambra south senatorial zone.

At the conference hall of Marble Arch hotel, venue of the Andy Uba faction of the state congress, Edun read out a court consent judgement with suit No. HIH/6/2015 which stated that Anambra stakeholders met and zoned the chairmanship position to Ihiala local government.

But speaking to reporters after the congress, Agudosi said the consent judgment was fraudulently obtained by chief Ken Emeakayi, alleging that was what Emeakayi armed the factional congress committee with to disqualify him and one Mr Emeka Small.

In Enugu state, the newly elected chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Augustine Nnamani, has promised to work assiduously to reposition the party for the challenges ahead.

He also pledged to promote the laudable programmes and policies of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led administration in the state, in line with the manifesto of the party.

This came as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, endorsed the process of Enugu State PDP congress which produced Nnamani and 28 other members of the State exco of the party as peaceful and transparent.

INEC, through its Administrative Secretary in Enugu State, Dr. Hyacinth Aniemena, hailed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and other leaders of the party in the state for the orderly manner the congress was conducted and called on politicians from other states to emulate the state.

The new state chairman of the party in his acceptance speech, thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for his uncommon leadership role that had brought peace and unity to the party.

He also lauded the governor for his impressive pace of development in the state, despite the current economic challenges in the country which had drastically affected the revenue inflow of the state.

Nnamani assured members of the party that he “will work with other party officials at the ward, local government area and state levels to further strengthen and reposition the party for the challenges ahead, in view of its status as an opposition party at the national level.”

Gov. Ugwuanyi thanked members of the PDP in the state for the “very peaceful, orderly and well organized” state congress and charged the newly elected state executive of the party to approach their duties with due commitment and zeal to reposition and strengthen the party.

Other elected members of the State Executive include Mr. Innocent Ezeoha – Deputy Chairman; Mr. Cletus Akalusi – Secretary; Barr. Christian C. Ani – Legal Adviser;    Obiora Ugwuoke – Treasurer;Mr. Alphonsus Orji – Financial Secretary; Onyeka Onwe – Auditor; Dr. Christian Iyiani – Organizing Secretary; Mrs. Vera Ezeugwu – Woman Leader;  Patrick Okoh – Youth Leader;  Jude Ugwu – Publicity Secretary, among others.
