UNIPORT student shot dead

PORT HARCOURT—Unknown gunmen, on Easter Sunday night, shot dead a student of the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, in a hotel at Aluu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The hoodlums, suspected to be a cult group, invaded the hotel around 11p.m., killing one Mr. Clinton Opribo-Amos.

At press time, the state Police Command‘s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, told Vanguard that the command had not been briefed on the killing.

However, a source, who related the incident to Vanguard on condition of anonymity, said every effort to reach the security operatives during the shooting was futile.

It was learned that Opribo-Amos of the Department of Linguistics and Communications was killed while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.

It was learnt that the gunmen switched off the generator set supplying electricity to the hotel before opening fire on their victims

“We were in the party when some boys entered the premises. Later the generator that was used in the hotel went off. Immediately the boys started shooting.”

“The continuous shooting created panic as some people laid flat on the floor. When the shooting stopped everybody ran away. It was later the victim was discovered dead.”

“Some other persons sustained various degrees of injuries as they were struggling to escape.”
