Omagbemi affirms commitment to Falcons job

Super Falcons chief coach, Florence Omagbemi has dismissed speculations that she may renege on her appointment as interim coach of the national women team.

Omagbemi, a former captain of the Super Falcons is yet to resume duties with the team already in camp stepping up preparations for the African women cup of nations qualifiers. She is said to be away on a FIFA assignment and will resume fully with the team later in the month.

“Omagbemi is fully committed and ready to chart a new course for the Super Falcons. She was attending to her sick dad when she was appointed. And more-so she has already discussed her itinerary with the Nigeria Football Federation, and it was all settled.

“She should resume with the team on March 26 after attending a FIFA assignment in Zurich,” said a  confidant of the former player who is a member of the FIFA women football technical study group.

The Super Falcons have been training with the other coaches, Pepetua Nkwocha and Ann Agumanu in Abuja and work is seems to be progressing. The beat an All-star male team 2-1 in Abuja on Monday.

The Super Falcons are determined to put away the disappointment of the 2015 season behind and they aim to defend the women AFCON they won 2014 in Namibia. Nigeria has been drawn bye into the second round of the qualifers and will play either Senegal or Guinea in April.
