THE organisers of the forthcoming Joseph Yobo Centenary and Testimonial match, Gohcome Associates, are planning big for the event. The Chief Executive Director of Gohcome Associates, Waidi Akanni, said the event was unique in many ways and the organizing body was working hard to make Nigerians appreciate the essence of celebrating the former international.

Gohcome Associates are working with the host state of the match, Rivers State, and the Joseph Yobo Centenary Committee headed by John Masteroudes.

Akanni said: “We are taking on two events in one. First we are celebrating the centenary of the player in the Eagles and secondly we are staging a testimonial to mark his retirement from active football.

“Two other players have staged testimonial games before but this time we are also celebrating the 101 caps of Yobo in the Eagles. He was a diligent player and he deserves all we are doing for him.”

The former international said coordinating the Yobo event had been good for him because of the huge response received so far.

“We are also going to play advisory role on what happens to Yobo after retirement. It has been good because Rivers government is backing us all the way and we also have three other partners talking to us.

“This is a big event and we believe there will still be more sponsors that will work with us to make the programme a reality,”

On Tuesday in Lagos, many football personalities were at the media conference of the testimonial match which will take place on May 27.
