N1b fine: NAFDAC destroys Guinness’ expired raw materials

By Chioma Obinna

Barely three months after Guinness Nigeria was slammed with N1 billion fine over expired raw materials, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has begun destruction of the items at the Kuruta dump-site, in Ota, Ogun State.

Vanguard gathered that 15 trucks of expired raw materials had been destroyed since the exercise began on Monday.

The materials in question which included Glucose and malt extracts were said to have expired in May last year but was revalidated to November 2015.

At the dump-site, more trucks loaded the goods were seen as labourers, and staff of Guinness and NAFDAC were on ground to ensure strict compliance with the destruction rules.

A source from the Enforcement Department of the Agency, who pleaded anonymity, told Vanguard that the exercise was part of a routine check on the company’s factory in Ikeja, Lagos on November 5, 2015.
