ASABA—DELTA State House of Assembly, yesterday, rejected the appointment of Mrs Mary Brown-Njokamma as the state Auditor-General,  arguing that the woman had worked for 42 years as against the mandatory 35 years in civil service.

Mrs Brown-Njokamma, who had served as Auditor-General (Local Government) for 10 years, was employed in the civil service in 1973.

Following the unanimous decision of the House  through voice vote, the state government is expected to forward another nominee in her stead while she proceeds on immediate retirement.

Meanwhile, the House, during its plenary session, announced the constitution of 28 Standing Committees with the Majority Leader, Mr Tim Owhefere, who represents Isoko North, emerging as Chairman, House Committee on Information.

The member representing Ethiope West, Miss Eriathake Ibori, was named Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Chief Dennis Omovie, Warri South II, is the Chairman, House Committee on DESOPADEC; Mr Anthony Elekeokuri, Ika North-East, Chairman Committee on Public Accounts; while the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Friday Osanebi, Ndokwa East, is Chairman, House Committee on Legislative Compliance.

Others include  Chief Sherriff Oborevwori, Okpe, Chairman, Committee on Capital City Development; Mr Efe Ofobruku, Chairman, House Committee on Works;  Mr Alphonsus Ojo, Ukwuani, Chairman, Committee on Transport; Mr Samuel Mariere, Ughelli North 1, Chairman, Committee on Water Resources; Mr Johnson Erijo, Isoko South II, Chairman, Committee on Establishment; Mr Timi Tonye, Patani, Chairman, Committee on Health, Mr Daniel Mayuku, Warri South West, Chairman, Committee on Education, and Mr  Osi Okocha, Aniocha North, Chairman, Committee on Commerce and Industry, among others.
