PORT HARCOURT— Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has urged traditional rulers, communities, religious leaders and others to ensure that children in their communities are immunized against polio, measles and other diseases.
At a briefing Monday, on the flag-off of the 2015 Physicians’ Week, chairman of NMA in Rivers State, Dr. Furo Green, said it was worthwhile for the rural communities to adhere strictly to the practice of immunizing their wards against deadly diseases.
Green called for understanding and co-operation of traditional rulers, school proprietors, religious leaders and parents in the advocacy for the eradication of diseases in Nigeria.
He said: “We urge traditional rulers, religious leaders, proprietors of kindergarten, day care homes and orphanages, not only to join the advocacy train but also to ensure that every child around them is immunized.”
