Management of J. Atete Football Club of Warri have lambasted the board of the Nigeria National League and the referees that handled their week 13 Nigeria League game against Mountain of Fire Ministries at the Agege Stadium Lagos on Wednesday.
Chief Executive Officer of the club, Julius Atete who doubles as the captain of the team accused the Emeka Inyama- led NNL Board of ignoring their appeals against usage of South West referees for the game that they lost one nil.
“ The referees from Oyo and Ondo States were evidently out to help MFM to win. Several unjust calls were made against us in the 2nd half and the centre referee shamelessly accepted an unjust free kick headed in by MFM attacker behind our wall of defence”, screamed Atete who wants the league management board to be reorganized.
In a sharp reaction, Chairman of the NNL, Chief Emeka Inyama told Sports Vanguard that his board does not appoint referees for league games.
“It is unfortunate that sometimes those who play the game don’t normally know the rules governing the game. We do not appoint referees. It is the NFF Referees Committee that appoint referees.”
“However, we have taken note of their complaints. We will look into them and appropriate recommen-dations will be made to the relevant authority.”
