The immediate past Senate President, Senator David Mark, has urged improved funding for the education sector in the country in order to save the upcoming generation from oppression and manipulation.

Mark who also called on public spirited individuals to avail indigent young Nigerians scholarships to acquire formal education so as to   improve themselves, spoke yesterday at the flag off of the 2014/2015 Senator David Mark Scholarship Foundation, DMSF, Awards in Otukpo.

He said, “Education for all is my passion; my prayer is that we improve the sector through improved funding so that every Nigerian of school age can be educated and saved from manipulation and oppression.

“Like wise, this foundation was set up to avail students in our state financial assistance to aid their education; I urge good spirited persons to also emulate this by sponsoring at least two students in our communities; it will go a long way to eliminate ignorance in the society.”

Earlier, chairman of the DMSF, Prof. James Alachi, said a total of 2,100 students drawn from higher institutions and Nursing Schools in the country   would benefit from this year’s award with each going home with N20,000 while several others were to receive special awards.

In his speech, the immediate past Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, noted that the country would be a better place for all if the privileged few made it a responsibility to impact the lives of the less privileged as being done by the Foundation.

In a heart rendering speech, a physically challenged beneficiary of the scheme, Francis Agboko, who is now a corp member, said after losing his parents at a tender age, “the foundation gave me education and today my life is no more repugnant.”
