PERMANENT Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs Omolara Erogbogbo has lauded Wellspring College, Omole, Lagos, for their  outstanding performance and emerging second runner-up in the Vision Inter-School Art Challenge organised by Friesland Campina WAMCO recently.

Her words; “Your school has proved to be a worthy ambassador of Lagos State with this remarkable performance. You have also justified the efforts of the state government in identifying and developing talents in all school age children.”

In the keenly contested Art Challenge among secondary schools, students were instructed to use Peak Milk cans and pouches to create what Nigeria will be in years to come.

Speaking at the occasion, the Principal, Wellspring College, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Oloriade  said: “Experts say art  helps children to comprehend mathematical concepts and develop their social skills.”

According to her, the human brain consists of two parts – the left which is used in logical thinking and analysis, is stimulated during regular academic work; and the right brain is used for creativity and emotional perception. “At Wellspring College, we assist in the actualisation of the function of both sides of the brain in order to build a total child,’’ she added.

Oloriade, however, attributed the school’s success at the competition to the quality of teaching received by the students. She stated that the college places emphasis on the importance of art and craft on a child’s development because they enhance creativity.
