Lagos—As the warning strike called by Resident Doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, enters its second day, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Chris Bode yesterday faulted the industrial action, describing it as “gross insensitivity.”

Bode, who spoke in Lagos said the warning strike was a misplaced priority on the part of the protesting doctors as the new government, that ought to consider its demands is still trying to settle down.

His words, “Skipping policy is the policy of the Federal government, not of LUTH. It was the previous government that made the policy and it is only naturally for the new government to decide whether to continue with it or not. I think it is grossly insensitive on the part of resident doctors to go on warning strike. Let’s face, who are they warning? The old or the new government?, he queried, while stating that the country demands more patriotic disposition from the doctors than she is getting considering the economic crisis.

“We lost innocent lives last year to strike. We can’t continue like this. Resident doctors should at least wait for the new government to consider the policy before going on strike. We should give the new government the benefit of doubt. Money should not be our priority right now,” CMD LUTH said.

Speaking, the LUTH ARD Chairman, Dr Moronkola Ramon, who declared the three-day strike, had threatened to an indefinite strike if their conditions are the met.
