LAGOS—The Lagos State government Thursday warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains across the state saying it was responsible for the persistent flash flooding experienced in the state.
Permanent Secretary of the state office of Drainage services, Mr. Ayodeji Adenekan said this after inspecting some drainage channels and canals in Agege Local Government, Palmgrove axis and others.
Adenekan lamented that residents have turned the drains into their dump site, saying “the canals across the state are filled with disposable cans and other solid refuse. They were thrown from different locations.”
According to him, “We have started work on the removal of the waste (during-rainy season). We have deployed different officers manning different locations in the state and their responsibility is to ensure that the drains are clean. It is an enormous work.”
