ASABA—PEEVED by the way lands were being allocated in the state, Delta State House of Assembly, yesterday, summoned the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Mr Misan Ukubeyinje, to appear before it today, to explain details of allocation of lands in the state in the past four years.

Also summoned is the immediate past commissioner in the ministry, Sir Patrick Ferife.  The Commissioners are to appear before the five- man ad-hoc committee setup on Tuesday  by the House, following a motion to that effect brought under matters of urgent public importance by the Chairman, House Committee on Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Martin Okonta.

Secretary of the Committee, Judith Nwaka, in a statement, said the former Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Sir Ferife, was expected to give details of allocation of lands during his tenure in the ministry.

Present commissioner in charge of the ministry, Ukubeyinje, was requested to appear before the committee with 15 copies of all relevant documents that would assist the committee in its findings.

To appear along side the commissioner are the General Manager, Urban and Regional Planning, the Surveyor-General in the ministry, the Director, Lands and Secretary, Land Allocation Committee, Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Development.

Fiscal Responsibility bill passed into law

Meanwhile, a bill for a law to amend the Delta State Fiscal Responsibility Law has been passed by the House.

The passage of the bill followed its third reading at yesterday’s plenary.

Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Johnson Erijo, in a motion, had moved for the second reading of the bill which was item five in the order paper of the yesyerday’s session.  Erijo, in another motion moved for suspension of the House rules 77 to 84 to enable it take the third reading of the bill and subsequent passage. Both motions were unanimously adopted.
