ASABA—AN ITSEKIRI leader and University of Benin, UNIBEN, don, Prof. Anthony Afejuku, yesterday, said the Itsekiri nationality in Delta State will not accept the naming of a project on its land, Kpokpo, after Gbaramatu, an Ijaw clan in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state.

Afejuku, reacting to the agreement by Ijaw and Itsekiri leaders on the groundbreaking of the Delta Gas City, Ogidigben, said there was need to define the location of the Deep Sea Port and not to say Gbaramatu, as if Gbaramatu is the name of a town.

He maintained that Itsekiri would not surrender Kpokpo for a project that will be named after another ethnic group.

Meanwhile, activist, Mr Alex Eyengho, explained, yesterday that Chief Emami Ayiri was not on the Itsekiri delegation to the meeting on the Export Processing Zone, EPZ.

A source said: “Ayiri might have been at the Government House for an entirely different purpose, he was not part of the meeting, just like Tompolo, who did not also show up.”

At the meeting on Wednesday, Itsekiri and Ijaw leaders agreed that the Gas City should be in Ogidigben and Deep Sea Port in Gbaramatu.
